PAM’s political bureau pleads for support of the cold weather casualties in Morocco

PAM’s political bureau held a meeting on Thursday, January 14, 2021, upon which it welcomed the recent reconciliation between the Gulf countries, having put an end to a three-year dispute. This reconciliation will have positive repercussions on the interests of Morocco and its neighbouring countries with regard to the partnership relations linking the Kingdom to the Gulf region.

The successful outcome of this crisis has once again demonstrated the wisdom and insight of HM King Mohammed VI in handling foreign policy issues, especially the Gulf crisis, the Bureau stated.

Members within the political bureau have also highlighted, in a press release following the meeting that was held under the chairmanship of the party’s secretary general, Abdellatif Ouahbi, the various political and diplomatic gains Morocco has achieved on the path to the consecration of its justified national cause, while urging political parties, the parliament and the government to exploit these achievements in order to strengthen the international recognition of Morocco’s cause in the Sahara.

In light of the recently-celebrated Amazigh New Year, fellow bureau members called upon the government to act “with real political will” as to adopt all decrees and measures falling under the constitutional provisions stipulating that Amazigh is one of Morocco’s recognized official languages.

PAM’s political bureau also deplored the “suffering” of the people living in mountainous and rural areas due to the cold snap and the snow, pleading for the government to make “urgent and exceptional” interventions to come to the aid of this portion of our population.

As for the Covid-19 pandemic, PAM leaders expressed their concern in light of the absence of any governmental statements regarding the delay in launching the vaccination process in order to dispel all sorts of confusion among citizens when it comes to the management of this health crisis.

PAM leaders have also tackled the “financial crisis” taking over the tourism sector resulting in the decline in foreign exchange receipts and the loss of thousands of jobs, in the absence of a governmental intervention to save this sector from “total bankruptcy”, noting that such “serious and unprecedented” reaction to the matter reflects the government’s sense of irresponsibility in dealing with citizens’ concerns.

Instead of developing plans and strategies to deal with the crisis, the government tended to take refuge in ordering the closure of cafes and restaurants, as well as generalizing night time curfew, the bureau added.

The PB also focused on the MPs’ pension scheme, arousing great interest among citizens, who have welcomed the position expressed by the Secretary General who called for this issue to be dealt with far from any political outbidding, and based on a patriotic sense of responsibility that takes into account the financial constraints of our country and the alleged squandering of funds.

PAM’s political bureau has also drawn attention to the fact that this delay affects the preparations for the next elections and goes beyond the shortcomings observed during the previous electoral experiences.
