Lotfi: Ibn Sina Hospital tends to improvise and put patients’ lives at risk while facing C0VID-19 epidemic

The Moroccan Network for Defending the Right to Health and the Right to Life, headed by Ali Lotfi, revealed that the opening of a unit to receive Coronavirus patients in Rabat Oncology Hospital may result in sudden and ad hoc deaths, calling on the Minister of Health to intervene urgently to stop the tampering and abuse at the Ibn Sina University Hospital (CHUIS) to protect the lives of sick citizens.

The organization stated in a communiqué that the center receives hundreds of cancer patients daily for diagnosis and follow-ups of their chemotherapy and radiation sessions, explaining that this segment of patients is most at risk of developing critical symptoms that may result in death, as concluded by a group of studies and research reports, which confirmed that patients suffering from cancer and those undergoing chemotherapy and radiation sessions are at greater risk of dying from the Coronavirus.

Transferring Covid-19 patients to the Oncology Hospital is a precedent and shall put the health of cancer patients in serious danger, the same source added, noting that such decision could have been avoided by taking other effective and efficient solutions, such as urging the Ministry of Health to open Temara Hospital and placing it temporarily at the disposal of Ibn Sina University Hospital, with the aim of receiving Corona patients and keep them away from cancer patients.

The way Ibn Sina University Hospital is running at such delicate times only makes things harder to handle and deal with, the communiqué stated ; in fact, this shall put hundreds of cancer patients under the threat of getting infected with the virus, rushing them to intensive care units that the Oncology hospital lacks in the first place, which will only lead to their death.
