The alternative to be adopted regarding the cultivation of cannabis shall be based on « legalization, classification and valorization », says Bouazza

The President of Chefchaouen Regional Council, Abderrahim Bouazza, participated on Thursday, February 18th, in a digital briefing, along with a special committee appointed by the Economic, Social and Environmental Council, as part of the preparations for the latter’s annual report on “the Cultivation of hemp in Morocco”.

This briefing gathered a number of experts, professionals and specialists.

During his intervention, Bouazza shared his point of view regarding the evolution of territorial spaces within cultivated areas, and presented the negative effects of such activity on both the environment and water resources.

Bouazza also discussed the economic repercussions of hemp cultivation (cannabis) in terms of processing, as well as reducing small farmers’ income, noting that this activity brings upon a series of social disorders such as poverty, exclusion, criminality and suicides.

Within the same context, the President of Chefchaouen Regional Council presented a number of practical proposals in the form of alternatives that could be adopted to bypass this phenomenon.

These alternatives are mainly focused on legalization, classification and valorization.
