PJD former Secretary General, Abdelilah Benkirane, said he would storm out of the party if his fellow MPs choose to approve the draft law on cannabis legalization in Morocco.
In his commitment letter published on “www.goud.ma” news website, Benkirane stated that he is under the obligation, as a member of PJD’s National Council, to suspend his membership within the party if the General Secretariat approves the aforementioned law; and that he will storm out if the latter is approved by the Parliament.
“If PJD’s general secretariat shall approve the law on cannabis legalization, I am afraid I have to suspend my membership within the aforementioned party”, Benkirane wrote in his note; However, “In the event that the party’s MPs ratify the aforementioned law, I will have to leave the party for good”, he added.
Benkirane’s latest statements have put PJD’s current SG, Saadeddine Othmani, in quite a delicate situation, provided that two prominent members within the party have resigned from their positions, namely Mustafa Ramid (due to his health condition), and Idriss Azami Al Idrissi, who was until recently the head of the party’s national council and a member of its general secretariat.
