PAM Politburo sheds light on the latest national and international developments

PAM Political Bureau held a presential meeting on March 28, 2021 in Marrakech, chaired by the Party’s Secretary General, Abdellatif Ouahbi.

During this meeting, PAM politburo members discussed the latest political developments at the national and international levels, as well as other organizational and financial matters with regard to the next elections.

“In light of the comprehensive political report presented by the Secretary General on the latest developments at the national, regional and international levels, PAM politburo members denounced the recent maneuvers conducted by certain African countries against the interests of Morocco’s territorial integrity, in a futile attempt to involve the African Union in the ongoing conflict over the kingdom’s southern provinces, despite the fact that this matter has already been settled at the African level, provided that the latter falls within the UN’s powers”, PAM politburo indicated in a press release.

“With regard to Morocco’s political scene, PAM politburo members shed light on the opposition’s joint memorandum within the House of Representatives, which was later on addressed to the Constitutional Court, as to express the opposition’s views with regard to the organic laws relating to the next elections, while emphasizing the continuous consultation and coordination between parties constituting the opposition team as a whole”, said the same source.

“As for the evolution of the Covid-19 pandemic and the various challenges it continues to pose, PAM Politburo members expressed their concerns about the repercussions that followed the “immoral” international vaccine race, which has recently taken a dangerous turn, as opposed to the principles framing international relations in terms of cooperation”, underlines the press release; calling on the government to “be more vigilant, to diversify Morocco’s partnerships and make good use of the kingdom’s international relations in this regard”.

PAM Politburo members have also denounced the “indifference logic” adopted by the government while approaching people’s expectations and concerns following the exacerbation of the health crisis repercussions, urging the government to adopt a more flexible approach in dealing with the crisis, to establish solid communicative links with the people, and to allay their fears about the still-unknown preventive measures that await them during the holy month of Ramadan. The government’s awaited new approach shall mainly address the most affected sectors, such as tourism institutions, coffeehouses, catering businesses, handicraft shops, and others.

As part of their preparations for the upcoming elections, PAM politburo members denounced once again the blatant exploitation of ministerial programs and propagandas in premature electoral campaigns, rejecting all forms of partisan representation in any governmental projects, for towns and villages shall not serve as election promises for any political party whatsoever.

“PAM politburo members called on all national parties to engage in a responsible political dialogue in the prospect of signing an ethical charter committing all parties to respect the laws in force, as well as the regulations framing free and fair electoral competition. PB’s members have also urged all parties to create a suitable electoral environment to ensure a flawless process, so as to increase participation rates, consolidate democratic choices, and strengthen Morocco’s democratic image at the regional and international levels”, the statement added.

With regard to the bill on the legal use of cannabis, which was recently approved by the government, PAM politburo members reaffirmed that the bill in question constitutes a “radical development” that shall bring upon several social and economic aspects which mainly concern Morocco’s northern population, provided the ambiguous legal context surrounding the matter. In this regard, the Political Bureau decided to broaden and deepen its consultative approach over this bill to more researchers, as well as all parties deemed interested in such a project within the concerned regions.

The politburo has also called on its MPs to be vigilant during the discussion and approval of this project in both Parliamentary chambers, and to strongly advocate for the improvement of this law so that it responds as much as possible to all social and legal matters with regard to the population’s concerns. Moreover, the PB urged its MPs to abide by the party’s positions expressed in various related documents in light of a modern national perspective which places first and foremost the interest of Morocco and its population, denouncing at the same time the electoral political exploitation of such a matter in partisan campaigns.

Regarding the party’s internal organization, PAM politburo members took note of the enormous efforts made by the National Electoral Commission and emphasized the good results the latter has obtained to date, thanks to the unprecedented mobilization of PAM activists across all regions of the country.

The PB also ruled on several candidacy files in certain regions and postponed its final decision over other files (deemed pending until additional data is revealed), concludes PAM politburo press release.
