A Malian woman gives birth to 9 babies in a Casablanca clinic

A miraculous childbirth! A woman of Malian origins gave birth to nine babies in a private clinic in Casablanca, MAP reported on Wednesday.

The nonuplets (5 girls and 4 boys) were delivered via caesarean section, as the new-borns have been reported to be in stable condition, provided that they weigh between 500 and 1100 grams each. The nonuplets are currently under surveillance within the neonatal intensive care unit, specifies Prof. Youssef Alaoui, Medical Director of the clinic.

The mother shall also remain under the supervision of the Clinic’s medical team, Prof. Alaoui stated to MAP agency.

The medical team believed the 26-year-old Malian to be pregnant with septuplets as has been stipulated in the ultrasound results, however, the mother eventually gave birth to nine babies instead.

The patient (mother) was brought to the Clinic upon 25 weeks of pregnancy. The medical staff, for their part, prescribed a tocolytic treatment to give the new-borns the best possible chances to survive. Five weeks later, the mother finally gave birth to nine healthy babies, the Professor specified.

“We shall remain very careful, for this is a case that requires all the expertise and technical skills our team has to provide,” said Prof. Youssef Alaoui, stressing that a multidisciplinary team of more than 30 doctors and nurses provided assistance during this extraordinary childbirth, adds MAP agency.
