PAM’s leader praises women’s role in Parliament, warns against middle-class impoverishment

PAM’s Regional Secretariat within Souss-Massa region held a communicative meeting on Friday (June 11, 2021), during which, PAM Secretary General, Abdellatif Ouahbi, stated that his party shall set the path for more reforms in order to get democratically and organizationally recognized, and finally be able to meet people’s aspirations at both social and modernist levels.

“The upcoming elections shall bring upon new perspectives for the party, whether by taking part in the government (where the party is keen on acting responsibly), or – in case of governmental exclusion – by reforming its structures and mobilizing the party’s human capital as to fulfil its constitutional obligations vis-à-vis all Moroccan citizens”, Ouahbi declared.

“The party’s youth have an important role to play, therefore, PAM is keen on granting such competencies the chance to engage in politics”, Ouahbi indicated, calling the young generations to have their voice heard by political leaderships and parties, rather than limiting their views to social media.

Within the same context, Ouahbi called on PAM’s youth to work on reforming its structure inside the party, stressing the need to adhere to self-imposition without any privilege intent.

“The party’s youth list is entrusted with three to four seats only, however, I believe that PAM’s young militants deserve more credit”, he added.

Ouahbi also emphasized the pivotal role played by women inside the party, for female representation within national lists has gone from 60 to 90 seats, as part of the democratic vision PAM has been rooting for, stressing that the party will mobilize a considerable female force in order to set the floor for other women to join the political scene whether inside or outside the parliament.

Meanwhile, Ouahbi revealed that 90% of the party’s candidacy lists for the local electoral districts have yet been finalized, while the remaining lists (young and female candidates) are to be announced by the end of July.

With regard to PAM’s relations with other parties, Ouahbi stated that all political formations have respect for one another, noting that the party is fulfilling its duties as part of the opposition.

“PAM shall owe respect to the parties that act as such; however, the party’s attitude is likely to take a swift turn if any formation is to cross the line”, he added.

On a different note, Ouahbi stressed that the expert committee in charge of formulating the party’s electoral program is almost due, claiming that the latter chose to stand by until the new development model is presented to HM, in order to develop a “much-appreciated” program.

In conclusion, Ouahbi called all parties to join forces in dealing with Morocco’s major strategic issues, underlining that the period between 2021 and 2026 will be quite challenging due to the coronavirus repercussions, therefore, the people of Morocco are to show more solidarity as to confront the middle-class impoverishment policies.
