Since the official announcement of the new government constitution, the name of Mr. Abdellatif Ouahbi has appeared as a potential candidate for holding the portfolio of Minister of Justice; and a number of questions were raised by political analysts and executives from the judicial apparatus such as whether the new Minister of Justice from the PAM would offer an additional amount of trust to Moroccans regarding judiciary laws like what he has done for the reorganization of the PAM political line; which has suffered an internal crisis only few months before the latest elections.
Mr. Abdellatif Ouahbi, is known as a strict person with a strong charisma, bold and intrepid; as most of jurists are taking that into account; the day he held his position as the PAM Secretary General, last February 9, he has called another time for more political détente. That request comes among his electoral campaign calls to win the PAM leadership, and in this context, Mr. Mehdi Bensaid, a member of the party politburo, who has held the portfolio of Minister of Youth, Sports, Culture and Communication, describes Mr. Ouahbi as “a unique character, who enjoys certain virtues that make him different from others”.
Those who know Mr. Abdellatif Ouahbi closely testify that he is very experienced in Moroccan internal politics and law; he has a large and rich professional and political experience as he was brought up within a leftist family and his political career has not been furnished with roses; he has suffered from political detention and arbitration; he has struggled inside the USFP youth organization during the hard oppressive times and has decided to join Attali’a party and was close to its leader Ahmed Benjelloun until he joined the Movement for Democrats; he was elected member of Parliament representing the Tractor party for the district of Northern Taroudant his native town where he was born in 1961.
Mr. Ouahbi chaired the PAM parliamentary team and has succeeded in imposing himself as a favorable substitute for the former party Secretary General, Hakim Benshemas since he has won the support of senior political personalities inside the PAM, especially of Ms. Fatima Zahra Mansouri, former mayor of Marrakech who runs the party national council affairs and enjoys a large popularity and respect among the party basic background.
Mr. Abdellatif Ouahbi, the smart and very bold lawyer, has been running his attorney office in Rabat for more than twenty years and he is familiar with very sensitive dossiers. In short, this man has been described as a smart, bold politician and lawyer and he is deeply aware of how to adapt his political discourse since he has accumulated and acquired many years of practice and expertise and he is highly qualified to meet the challenge of accepting the portfolio of the very sensitive Ministry of Justice as some people have commented by saying “this is the profile of the Minister of Justice we have been expecting for a long time”.
