On the margin of the 49 working session of the UN human rights council meeting in Geneva, Minister of Justice Mr. Abdellatif Ouahbi has held bilateral talks with Mrs. Irlène Antonila, the Minister of Justice of the Gabon Republic, in the presence of the Gabonese representative at the UN Office in Geneva and Mr. Omar Zniber, the Moroccan Kingdom’s permanent representative at the UN Office in Geneva.
During that meeting, Minister Ouahbi has stressed the reforms undertaken by Morocco in the field of human rights and in other fields as well, pointing out to the reforms the Moroccan Ministry of Justice is assuming at the level of legislation and infrastructure, particularly the major projects which concern renewal and construction of justice courts and centers for resident judges in rural areas and further towns from the center; the fact which will bring judiciary services closer to citizens.
In the same context, Minister Ouahbi has talked about strong debate and developments about both civil and penal code laws; while all those measures are heading towards strengthening human rights and freedoms and fair trials in the Moroccan Kingdom and institutionalize a new penal policy which is in accordance with the 2011 constitution and with Morocco’s international rights commitments.
The Minister has confirmed over his meeting the importance of the relationships between both countries under the brotherly leadership of His Majesty and His Excellency the President of Gabon, adding that the strong relationships linking the Moroccan Kingdom and the Republic of Gabon help the construction of strong cooperation relationships between the Moroccan Ministry of Justice and its Gabonese counterpart. Minister Ouahbi has asserted that the Ministry of Justice new policy will give a paramount importance to cooperation in the field of justice inside the African continent and Arab countries, pointing out that progress and reforms of the justice apparatus in both Morocco and Gabon serve the interest of Africa and its causes.
From her own side, the Gabonese Minister of Justice Irlène Antonila has confirmed her country’s readiness for cooperation with the Moroccan Kingdom in many sectors most particularly in the sector of justice, human rights and women rights, adding that her country is witnessing many changes and reforms in the regulations and justice especially in relation with women rights and human rights in general.
