Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication Mr. Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid was the guest last Tuesday April 26, 2022, of radio program “Momo Ramadan Show” broadcast on Hit Radio, to interact on current debate about the bill regulating the Moroccan Copy Rights Office (ONDA)
The Minister has revealed that the bill has come for the benefit of artists members of the office, through establishing a legal regulatory framework, its modernization and its administrative management.
Minister Bensaid has made clear that the fundamental goal of the current bill is to ensure the good organization of the office, after several reports referring to the existence of mismanagement of its incomes; the fact which has brought many institutions to reject their fees payment to the office.
Concerning the demands by some artists requesting independence aspect of the copy rights office, Minister Bensaid has confirmed that he is envisaging the same goal, but through phases, such as first to have a regulating law which would bring the state to recognize the office, then to work on developing provisions and clauses that should be amended.
Minister Bensaid stated “Our role right now is to ensure that artists should benefit from their rights with all transparency and that everybody should benefit from compensations he deserves”.
Minister Bensaid has confirmed that he will bear his political and cultural responsibility regarding the bill, pointing out that withdrawing the law from the Parliament now is for its amendment, and that administrative procedures will take at least six months.
