The Hague.. Minister of Justice held a fruitful meeting with President of the European Union Agency for Cooperation in the field of Penal Justice

Minister of Justice Mr. Abdellatif Ouahbi, held last Thursday morning, November 24, 2022 in the Hague, in the Dutch Kingdom, a meeting with President of the European Union Agency for Cooperation in the Penal Justice field, Mr. Ladislav Hamran, in the presence of the Moroccan Kingdom’s Ambassador to Holland, Mr. Mohamed Basri and some executives from the Moroccan Ministry of Justice and the European Union Agency.

According to a communiqué issued by the Minister’s inner staff, Minister Ouahbi has praised the pivotal role the European Agency is playing in the fight against crimes, and strengthening legislative and managerial strategies in the field of justice, presenting major reforms led by Morocco in the confrontation against crimes through developing an efficient penal policy, and amending penal code procedure, confirming Morocco’s readiness to deepen and develop cooperation relationship with the European Agency to reinforce human rights and protecting communities from crimes nationally and internationally.

The communiqué has informed that Minister of Justice, Mr. Ouahbi has confirmed that deepening cooperation today with the European Agency in the fight against intercontinental crimes has become a necessity and an urgent desire to reinforce exchange of expertise, training and developing bilateral agreements and relationships between both sides, in the context of full respect for human rights and affording conditions for a fair trial.

The communiqué has reported that the President of the European Agency for Cooperation in the field of Penal Justice, has from his own side, praised the level of cooperation established between Morocco and the European Agency and with various partnerships which link the EU in the fight against crime, outlining that Morocco’s fingerprint is strong and omnipresent in different centers and inside some European mechanism concerned with human rights and fight against crime and judiciary cooperation.

The President of the European Union Agency has stated that there is actually a cooperation program in terms of penal issues between MENA region and Europe, expressing all sides readiness to strengthen that cooperation with Morocco which is considered as a model in that filed, as it has always been an active member and a pioneer in the European experience and enjoys a great deal of cooperation in his field; while praising at the same time major projects held lately in Marrakech about fight against money crime.

At the end of the meeting, Minister Ouahbi has signed in the European Agency’s golden registry.
