Minister of Justice: Legal profession needs deep reforms to cope with important reforms witnessed by our country

Minister of Justice, Mr. Abdellatif Ouahbi, stated that legal profession needs deep reforms and changes to cope with important reforms being witnessed by our country in the field of reinforcing independence of the judicial power, stressing on the necessity to amend legal profession law to confront increasing international pressure on bar profession nationally.

Minister Ouahbi said, during his participation in the opening session of a conference hosted by socialist USFP party at the house of councilors, last Thursday January 5, 2023 under the topic “for a modern legal profession framework”, that “legal profession in Morocco has remained an important intellectual, political and moral national power, which has played greater historical roles in defending freedoms and human rights, that’s why we should today amend the bar profession law so as to cope with new developments, on their top to empower its legal and consideration place inside the judicial power and amid the rest of the state’s institutions.”

Minister Ouahbi added that guidelines for the reform the government is planning to carry out regarding bar profession concern excellent training and reinforcing the profession inside public administration and big companies and in the legal field; those guidelines concern also moralization of the legal profession and more clarification of the contract relationship between the lawyer and his client, and also to strengthen lawyers’ immunity during their defending missions. The other important point is to manage elections inside bar associations and means to elect bar association presidents, their mandate and other aspects of reforms related to the legal profession in general.
