Video – Minister Abdellatif Ouahbi highlights the importance of reforming lawyers’ profession amid agenda of reforms undertaken by the Ministry of Justice

Minister of Justice, Mr. Abdellatif Ouahbi has reiterated the honesty of the lawyers’ exam results, stressing that there’s no possibility to backtrack on or cancel them.

Minister Ouahbi, who was talking in an exclusive meeting with Grand Format program hosted by le 360.com website and broadcast last Wednesday, February 15, 2023, said that we should not sacrifice 2000 job positions, just to satisfy a group of individuals whose numbers are less than one hand fingers.

Minister Ouahbi stressed that those who have succeeded in that exam are Moroccans from various categories and social class; pointing out that directly after the exam, the Ministry of Justice has organized a test to compete for 1200 job positions, and examinees are Moroccans from different categories and everything was fine; adding “I had the choice to cancel those positions or to assume my own responsibility”, underlining that when one assumes a Ministerial responsibility, either you confront all challenges or backtrack.

Minister Ouahbi has announced that, after claims and calls submitted to Public Prosecutor Office, the Justice Ministry is embarking on preparing oral exam for lawyers’ profession. The Minister has concluded that some parties have attempted to render the debate raised about that topic as if it were a crisis, while it remains as normal difference of opinion that should be managed on the ground of mutual respect.

Minister Ouahbi has confirmed that current relationship with the bar association is very good and we are working collectively on many files during meetings that are held from time to time. Pending files between the Ministry and the bar association will be decided over the next two months especially what concerns the lawyers’ profession status.

The lawyers’ profession reform is highly important for the Justice Ministry, seen as a part of the broad reform vision embraced by the justice apparatus and which will have positive impact on lawyers working conditions.

Minister Ouahbi has disclosed that there are 3000 new lawyers whose tax situations were settled with tax directory, pointing out that the Ministry is cooperating with lawyers to find appropriate solutions to their tax problems.

Minister Abdellatif Ouahbi: Penal project bill is not only the Ministry of Justice bill but of other several institutions and sectors as well

Minister of Justice Mr. Abdellatif Ouahbi pointed out during a Grant Format program hosted by le 360.com and broadcast Wednesday evening February 15, 2023, that the penal bill works were accomplished at the level of the Ministry of Justice, but some details are still pending.

Minister Ouahbi, who was guest of the program, added that the penal bill doesn’t concern only the Ministry of Justice but also several other sectors from inside the government and state institutions as well.

Minister Ouahbi stated “Now we are going to ask the opinion of those sectors and institutions and then we will take appropriate measures in terms of legislation procedure; as for the Ministry, it has already included some amendments and changes.”

Minister Ouahbi has said that the subject was handled with a great deal of boldness, “however, we should not ignore that we are in the state of the Commander of the Faithful and Islamic law/Shari is part of the legislation sources, and there are also several state institutions which have their fundamental opinion in influencing the issuance of the bill and that opinion should be taken into consideration.”

In the same context, Minister Ouahbi said that after a final consensus is reached among all interested institutions, then the penal bill will come up into existence.

In general, the bill includes a number of texts which finally help protect Moroccan citizens and pursue the reforms programs of the judiciary apparatus in our country, as has clarified Minister of Justice.
