Video – Minister of Justice supervises over the launching of a practical informative guide against torture

Minister of Justice, Mr. Abdellatif Ouahbi presided last Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at his department, the launching ceremony of a practical informative guide against torture achieved in partnership between the Justice Ministry and the Danish Institute under the topic “Obligations of anti-torture and other forms of harsh, inhuman and degrading penalties.”

Minister of Justice has confirmed during that meeting attended by the Ambassador of the Danish Kingdom and legal director of the Danish Institute of anti-torture, that the presentation of this informative guide along with other guides which were previously prepared on the same topic and in many occasions by different bodies and sectors, embodies the Moroccan Kingdom’s eagerness to strengthen deployed efforts regarding protection from and anti- torture.

Minister Ouahbi has highlighted that special attention was given to the preparation of that informative guide, by bringing together a number of tools based on simplified method that mixes up between international and national, legislative and practical within an approach imposed by anti-torture agreement of basic obligations and commitments which countries should respect their implementation.

Minister Ouahbi stated that “human dignity and safety are considered as an established rooted culture in the Moroccan society values which we draw from our religious background and traditions built on tolerance and respect of the other.., adding that “This culture represents an ethics background before it were a national and international commitment, and the Moroccan Kingdom increasingly continues, with all its powers and institutions to work for the advancement of human dignity and safety values in conformity with a responsible honest common determination at many levels.”

Minister Ouahbi has pointed out that there are many major open projects the Moroccan Kingdom is embarked on to reinforce mechanisms of protection and anti-torture such as the reviewing of the penal code procedure and penitentiary penal code.
