Marrakech capital of culture in the Islamic world for 2024

Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication, Mr. Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid announced last Monday evening, May 1, 2023, that Marrakech will be the capital of culture in the Islamic world for 2024.

Minister Bensaid’s announcement has come in the aftermath of the end of celebration of Rabat as capital of culture in the Islamic world for 2022, an event that was hosted by ISESCO over the year and has witnessed many cultural and artistic events including the exhibit and museum of the Prophet Muhammad (peace upon him) being opened and inaugurated by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Moulay Al Hassan.

Marrakech will be hosting many cultural artistic and intellectual events highlighting Islamic civilization; in addition of presenting historical landmarks of Marrakech especially its particular magic through its mosques, palaces and its Andalusian Islamic architecture.

Marrakech is, for instance, among the cities included in the UNESCO list of non-material human heritage and the city is witnessing a steady progress in terms of its architecture and culture, thanks to the royal program “Marrakech the renewable city”, as current communal council led by its president Fatima Zahra Mansouri, is making big efforts to implement the program and meet the expectations of Marrakech communities.

“Marrakech capital of culture in the Islamic world” will be an opportunity to highlight also the palm city’s tourism landmarks, its non-material heritage, its archeological sites and tourism attractions.
