Minister of Justice: Granting Moroccan citizenship to foreign husband is one aspect of gender equality

Minister of Justice Mr. Abdellatif Ouahbi has announced that the Justice Ministry has submitted a project bill number 019.13 to amend chapter 10 of the citizenship law, granting the right of citizenship to foreign husband by the means of getting married with a Moroccan woman citizen; the project bill is still under procedures to be adopted by the government.

Minister of Justice has confirmed in his response to a written question by the movement party, that granting Moroccan citizenship to a foreign husband married with a Moroccan woman citizen is part of gender equality in the context of human rights and a genuine embodiment of the state’s rule of law.

Minister Ouahbi added that this step has come in compliance with the Moroccan kingdom’s effort to improve its legal system to be appropriate with its international commitments and respect of UN agreements and in the context of openness on international legal systems related to acquiring citizenship.
