Rabat.. The signing of a criminals’ extradition agreement between Morocco and Holland

A cooperation agreement of criminals’ extradition was signed last Monday December 18, 2023, in Rabat during a meeting between Minister of Justice Mr. Abdellatif Ouahbi and his Dutch counterpart Minister of Justice and Security Dilan Zegerius.

A communiqué issued by the Justice Ministry has informed that this agreement has come within the framework of a legal and judiciary cooperation program aimed at allowing the extradition of suspected persons who have committed crime between countries.

The communiqué said that this agreement is considered as an efficient tool to fight criminality across borders and minimize impunity opportunities. It is also seen as fundamental pillar to strengthen the Moroccan Kingdom’s position in the field of trans-continental criminality fighting.

Minister Ouahbi has stated in this context that “this agreement is a completion for the judiciary cooperation protocol between both countries and we see it as a big value to our strong historical partnership linking the two kingdoms the Moroccan and the Dutch; adding that “this agreement will reinforce justice procedures to implement mechanisms of fighting trans-continental impunity.”

The Dutch Minister, from her own side, has confirmed that “organized crime does not recognize borders and international criminal networks work continuously to reinforce their illegal practices of weapons, drugs and human trafficking; they also change smuggling routes within a very short period of time and deposit illegal money/funds outside for laundering.”

The Dutch Minister added that “.. With this agreement, we are reinforcing our strong relationships we have built with Morocco and we intensify our common efforts to fight trans-continental organized crime.”
