Political parties praise citizens’ responsible compliance… and condemn violations of the public health emergency order by some individuals

Moroccan political parties represented in Parliament praised “the conscious discipline and strong sense of responsibility demonstrated by all citizens since the declaration of the public health emergency, and the accompanying decisive measures to limit the spread of the novel coronavirus pandemic. This civilized and civic-minded behavior is worthy of praise and pride and should be leveraged positively in confronting the repercussions of this disease in the days ahead, which are difficult for everyone.”

In a joint statement, they expressed their complete condemnation of the actions of a group of individuals in Moroccan cities last night, Saturday into Sunday, who gathered in incomprehensible and unjustified gatherings on public streets, in flagrant violation of the law that safeguards the public interest and ensures the safety of citizens and society, and in disregard of all health guidelines issued by medical authorities in this regard, which must be adhered to under these difficult circumstances to protect the health of our citizens. This behavior, which it described as contrary to the national consensus that has solidified in these circumstances to address this pandemic through the various health, economic, and social measures our country is implementing under the courageous and proactive leadership of His Majesty the King, may God preserve him.

At the same time, it reaffirmed its rejection of such “behaviors due to the danger they pose to public order, citizens’ health, and social stability, and because they constitute a violation of laws and regulations and harm the public interest.”

The political parties that signed the statement (Justice and Development, Authenticity and Modernity, Independence, National Rally of Independents, Popular Movement, Socialist Union of Popular Forces, Constitutional Union, and Progress and Socialism) all the tremendous efforts undertaken by our country’s authorities, under the leadership and supervision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God preserve him, on many fronts to contain this deadly virus, and urge all citizens to fully comply with the public health emergency declared by our country’s authorities, and to strictly adhere to the various precautionary measures and protocols that have been put in place to protect the health of citizens and defend the stability of our nation as it faces this global pandemic, which we pray to the Almighty will grant our country the strength to contain and overcome. As national parties, we remain at the disposal of our country’s institutions to further mobilize, coordinate, raise awareness, and undertake all efforts deemed necessary by the authorities to strengthen our nation’s response at this critical juncture.
