Idrissi: The construction of the first underground public parking garage is an important step in the Grand Gueliz project in Marrakech

Marrakech will see the completion of its first underground public parking garage at Place du 16 Novembre, covering an area of 9,500 square meters, as part of the Grand Gueliz project, which aims to improve infrastructure and enhance the city’s appeal.

This project will be carried out in partnership with the Marrakech Municipal Council, the Marrakech-Safi Regional Council, the regional government, and the Ministry of National Planning, Urban Development, Housing, and Urban Policy, and its implementation will take eight months.

In this context, Mohamed El Idrissi, First Deputy President of the Marrakech Municipal Council and Commissioner for Public Works, Construction, Logistics, and Roads, revealed in a press statement that the project to build the first underground public parking garage at 16 November Square is an important step in the Greater Gueliz project and aims to address the city’s parking problem.

Al-Idrissi explained that the parking garage will feature two underground levels with a capacity of up to 460 cars, in addition to a designated area for 60 motorcycles. He emphasized that the project is not limited to providing parking spaces but also includes modern amenities, as the upper level will be developed to feature a fountain, green space, and modern lighting, to preserve the aesthetic character of 16 November Square, which hosts local and international events.

The vice-president of the Marrakech Municipal Council added that the new parking garage will feature ten charging stations for electric vehicles, as well as multiple entrances and exits to facilitate traffic flow, including an entrance on Hassan II Street and an entrance and exit on Oued Al-Makhazen Street, as well as an exit on Qadi Ayyad Street. He emphasized that this project is part of the efforts being made by the Marrakech Municipal Council, led by Fatima Al-Zahra Al-Mansouri, to resolve the parking crisis, noting that the council is working to find sustainable solutions to this problem, including the construction of underground parking garages at strategic locations throughout the city.

In a related development, Al-Idrissi announced that construction will begin soon on another underground parking garage in Arsat Al-Ma'ash, near Jameh Al-Fana Square, which will help strengthen the infrastructure and improve the quality of services provided to residents and visitors.

Furthermore, this project represents an important step toward strengthening Marrakech’s infrastructure and improving mobility within the city, particularly in areas with heavy traffic. This will reinforce the city’s position as a global tourist destination equipped with modern facilities that meet the needs of both residents and visitors.
