Ten years after the launch of the community school initiative, Abdelrahim Bouazza, Member of Parliament for the Chefchaouen constituency, called on the Minister of National Education, Early Childhood Education, and Sports to take a step back to reflect on, evaluate, and assess this initiative.
In remarks made during the oral question period held on Monday, January 24, 2022, Bouazza emphasized that community schools represent an important initiative in our country; they serve as a mechanism to combat school dropout rates, particularly in rural areas, as well as to promote girls’ education in rural communities in general. Bouazza added that this initiative “despite its known shortcomings, demand for it continues to grow.”
Bouazza added, “Since 2009, this strategy has been adopted to expand and build a number of community schools; therefore, this experiment must be evaluated: has it truly achieved its intended goals and eliminated branch schools? especially since a number of community schools have facilities that are completely stagnant.” In this regard, he proposed, in addition to expanding these schools, adopting a school transportation system as a key mechanism.
