Laila Benali, Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, confirmed that butane gas used for domestic purposes is unrelated to the Maghreb-Europe Gas Pipeline, and that it is sourced through imports from 16 companies via various ports in Morocco.
In response to questions from members of parliament during today’s (Monday) oral question session, the minister said, that approximately 80 percent of our butane gas supply comes from North America and Europe, and is bottled in 3-kg, 6-kg, and 12-kg cylinders at 38 filling stations by 680 distributors,” She noted that the total number of gas cylinders in Morocco is 68 million, and that there is no issue with the supply of butane gas because its price is linked to the price of petroleum, not natural gas.
