Zakia Al-Marini: The Fund for the Promotion of Women's Representation has helped build capacity and support female candidates in elections

Zakia Al-Marini, the Authenticity and Modernity Party’s representative on the committee tasked with implementing the support fund designed to promote women’s representation, confirmed that the committee’s meeting held this week at the Ministry of the Interior’s headquarters in Rabat was dedicated to exploring ways to enhance women’s representation by improving their access to various institutions and facilitating their integration into the electoral process.

In a statement to “Bam.ma,” Al-Marini said that the support fund dedicated to promoting women’s representation was established in 2009 by royal decree. It is a mechanism aimed at strengthening women’s capacities to facilitate their integration into national political and electoral life, and consists of representatives from government sectors, political parties, and civil society.

Al-Marini noted that the fund was established by the Ministry of the Interior and is managed by the committee tasked with implementing the support fund dedicated to promoting women’s representation. The committee meets twice or more a year to determine the criteria for selecting the associations the fund will support, as well as the documents to be included in the application. In addition, the committee evaluates its previous work and establishes a program to monitor projects launched in the regions, announcing that the committee will ensure the selection of associations that will work to provide training for women and assist them in organizing and selecting candidates during the upcoming elections.

The representative of the Authenticity and Modernity Party on the committee noted that the committee is working to increase the number of women in the Kingdom’s representative institutions by examining the conditions and means of funding projects undertaken by political parties and organizations active in the field of women’s rights.

Zakia Al-Marini emphasized that the goal of these projects is to build capacity and support female candidates in elections, noting that the committee’s role is to review the records of these institutions and political parties and monitor their work with the aim of improving women’s representation and achieving equality.

She noted that the committee had previously organized a series of training sessions aimed at facilitating the integration of elected women, extending this support to all regions of Morocco in order to enable all women to exercise their right to participate in political life.
