The initiative launched by Mr. Khalid Al-Bashriwi, a member of the PAM National Council and a tourism operator in the Al Hoceima region, who opened the doors of his hotels in Al Hoceima to a group of citizens facing difficult circumstances following the outbreak of the novel coronavirus causing the COVID-19 pandemic, The initiative received significant media coverage, both in broadcast and print media, as well as continuous attention on various social media platforms, which regarded Al-Bashriwi’s actions as a deeply humanitarian gesture deserving of recognition and appreciation.

A camera crew from Channel 2 Douzim arrived on the scene—specifically at the hotel housing about 17 people, including travelers who were forced to stop in Al Hoceima following the Moroccan government’s decision to ban inter-city travel, as well as homeless individuals and day laborers who suddenly found themselves unemployed. The camera captured testimonies from some of the hotel’s guests, who unanimously agreed that the living conditions were good and that food, drink, and clothing had been provided for them, which instilled in them a great sense of optimism and joy. Others expressed their gratitude and appreciation for this wonderful humanitarian initiative, which comes amid the exceptional circumstances our country is facing—namely, the public health emergency. Despite this, Khaled Al-Bashriwi maintains daily contact with the residents to closely monitor their living and health conditions and to ask if they need anything.
From her location, Iman Hamzaoui, a community activist in Al Hoceima, praised the initiative taken by Mr. Khalid Al-Bashriwi to provide shelter to 17 people in difficult circumstances and ensure they have all the necessary living conditions that respect human dignity, safety, and hygiene. She added: “We saw a tremendous and very swift response from Mr. Al-Bashriwi in housing the residents, and things are going as well as they can.”
