The Eastern Region Council Secures Major Investment That Will Create 3,500 Jobs in the Region

Immediately after his election as president of the Oriental Region Council, an agreement was signed last Wednesday in Oujda to build a factory for the manufacture of automotive wiring (cables) in the capital of the Oriental Region, which is expected to create 3,500 direct jobs with an investment of 394 million dirhams.

Baoui confirmed that this project—the first of its kind—will be carried out in the eastern region by APTIV, a company specializing in the manufacture of automotive parts, on an 8-hectare site in the Free Zone for Industrial Acceleration within the Oujda Technology Park.

Baoui stated that the establishment of this new industrial unit is part of a partnership between the Oriental Region, the Regional Council, the Regional Investment Center of the Oriental Region, and the companies “Med Zid” and “APTIV.”

The president of the Eastern Region Council described the signing ceremony for an agreement to establish a major investment project in the region by APTIV, a manufacturer of automotive parts, as a “historic day,” emphasizing that the signing of this agreement with the leading company in the wiring harness industry was the result of a collective effort by both the previous and current councils.

Baoui revealed that construction on the project is set to begin next January, with the first phase scheduled for completion next June, at which point the workforce will begin arriving.

Baoui emphasized that the Council will continue its efforts to attract investment, noting that the challenge the Council has taken on is to attract more investment to drive the region forward and reduce unemployment. He added that this project falls within the scope of the new development model championed by His Majesty King Mohammed VI.

Regarding the agency’s contribution to this project, Baoui said that the agency contributed 32 million dirhams.
