Mohamed El Idrissi, First Deputy Chair of the Marrakech Municipal Council, said that renovation work on the historic Jemaa el-Fna Square is proceeding at an acceptable pace, noting that a number of infrastructure projects have been completed while reorganization efforts and the installation of basic amenities are ongoing.
Al-Idrisi added that the primary goal is to complete the workshops on schedule while ensuring quality.
Al-Idrissi explained that the authorities are committed to ensuring the continuity of the square’s daily activities, as it serves as a vital space that connects the economy, culture, and heritage.
He emphasized that the relevant committee is in constant communication with professionals and stakeholders to overcome any difficulties, while implementing phased measures to minimize the impact of the construction work on visitors and users.

The spokesperson emphasized that the project places a high priority on respecting the square’s historical and symbolic value by adopting designs that are in harmony with its cultural character, while incorporating modern standards for safety, organization, and cleanliness.
He added that the goal is for Jemaa el-Fna Square to remain an authentic space that reflects the identity of Marrakech, while at the same time being equipped to welcome millions of visitors under improved conditions.
Al-Idrissi concluded his remarks by emphasizing that the square renovation project is not merely an infrastructure project, but rather a symbolic endeavor that reflects the city’s commitment to preserving its collective memory and developing it in harmony with the needs of the present and the aspirations of the future.
