The Vice Chairperson of the African Union Commission Commends Morocco’s Actions and Initiatives Within the Union

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Abroad reported that the Deputy Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Ms. Monique Nsansabagwanwa, commended the measures and initiatives taken by Morocco within the Union.
A statement from the ministry noted that Ms. Nsansabagwanwa expressed, during talks held Thursday via video conference with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Abroad, Mr. Nasser Bourita, her readiness to work with the Kingdom for an effective Union and for “the Africa we want.”

For his part, Mr. Bourita once again extended Morocco’s sincere congratulations to Ms. Nsanzabagwanu following her election as Vice-Chair of the Commission, assuring her of the Kingdom’s continued and active support in implementing her priorities, according to the same source.

The minister also reaffirmed Morocco’s unwavering support for the institutional reform of the African Union, based on a credible governance framework, an effective African Commission, constructive engagement with various stakeholders, and the establishment of a mechanism to monitor and evaluate the African Union’s policies and programs.

On the other hand, Mr. Bourita emphasized that the success of this reform depends on having highly qualified, competitive, and effective personnel within the African Union’s human resources, noting that the recruitment of such personnel must be based on merit, equality, transparency, and professional competence.

The statement added that Mr. Bourita and Ms. Nsanzabagwanwa highlighted the positive, constructive, and innovative role of African citizens, particularly women and youth, in achieving the strategic goal of a unified and prosperous Africa, noting that the officials agreed to maintain consultations and communication through joint and coordinated action to enable the continent to keep pace with sustainable development and prosperity.

At the conclusion of these talks, Mr. Bourita extended an invitation to Ms. Ntsansabagwanu to pay a working visit to the Kingdom of Morocco as soon as her health permits.

The statement noted that this meeting, which is part of Morocco’s ongoing efforts to strengthen dialogue and constructive engagement with senior officials of the African Union, provided an opportunity to reaffirm the Kingdom’s commitment to supporting the African Union’s efforts to achieve Agenda 2063, “The Africa We Want,” through an approach based on ownership, inclusivity, and transparency.
