The investigating judge within Tangier’s Court of First Instance decided to put the owner of the alleged “secret factory” under custody, in light of the investigations related to the tragic incident that claimed the lives of 28 workers.
The case was first brought to the Court of Appeal, however, the latter claimed having no jurisdiction over the matter, and decided to refer the case to the Public Prosecution at the Court of First Instance; which, for its part, requested the investigating judge to build his case against the factory owner.
It is noteworthy that the factory owner is charged with “unintended murder, unintentional wounds due to the failure to abide by labor laws and regulations, breaching health emergency law requirements, establishing an unlicensed business, employing minors without permission, and failing to respect different health and safety conditions within the factory”.
A hearing was scheduled for March 09, 2021, in order to interrogate the plaintiff before the investigating judge.
