Minister of Justice confirms the Moroccan kingdom will remain engaged in different efforts to activate « Marrakech declaration »
Minister of Justice Mr. Abdellatif Ouahbi has considered that the qualitative and heavy presence at the 52nd session of the human rights council about “the means to establish a network of national mechanism for the execution preparation and follow up of reports” demonstrates the increasing interest in the role of those mechanisms.
In his statement made during the meeting held last Tuesday, February 28, 2023, at the Geneva Palace , Minister Ouahbi has reminded of the precedents of some countries among them the Moroccan Kingdom, to think about creating national mechanisms to be in charge of following up international commitments in the human rights field, referring to the UN eagerness, especially the Higher Commissioner for Human Rights , since its 2012 report, about the reforms of conventions authorities and efficient debate among different components on these national mechanisms.
Minister Ouahbi has reminded of the international conference held in Marrakech in December 2022 about “national mechanisms for the execution, preparation and follow up of reports in the field of human rights”, and which has brought together high-level officials from about 30 states, international experts interested in human rights, and representatives of those national mechanisms and human rights national institutions.
Minister Ouahbi has concluded that the Moroccan Kingdom will remain engaged in different efforts aimed at activating the Marrakech declaration and other related initiatives to achieve this world common ambition.
