Video – Ouahbi: the law on “legalizing” cannabis is not meant to benefit political groups

PAM’s team within the House of Councillors held a communicative meeting with a number of civic actors (from northern provinces), on Monday, May 3rd, to discuss the law on legalizing cannabis.

During the meeting, PAM Secretary General, Abdellatif Ouahbi, emphasized that legalizing the cultivation of cannabis is a very sensitive issue, noting at the same time that the law in question is not meant to serve any political orientation.

“The draft law on cannabis tends to protect farmers and preserve their rights”, Ouahbi declared, stressing that the criminal cases related to this issue in particular shall make the priority in light of a potential law legalizing the cultivation of cannabis.

Ouahbi also indicated that the issue on legalizing the cultivation of cannabis is very sensitive, thus requiring all legislative components to be bold in dealing with this matter, recalling that the security approaches adopted by a number of countries in this regard have failed miserably.

Within the same context, Ouahbi revealed that the law on cannabis is likely to fall to our country’s interest, stressing that implementing such a project remains the main challenge for the government, especially in terms of management, financing and investment.

Ouahbi also called on all political parties within the Parliament to discuss the law related to the legitimate uses of cannabis prior to its referral to Morocco’s Minister of Interior for approval.
