Tangier’s Regional Council to adopt projects worth 950 million MAD

Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima Regional Council held an ordinary session, on Monday (July 05, 2021), upon which, the council approved several agreements relating to the creation of new industrial and economic zones within the area, as well as a set of partnership conventions in the social, cultural and environmental fields, for an estimated amount of 945 million dirhams.

The session was chaired by the President of Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima Regional Council, Fatima El Hassani, for it tended to discuss a number of social, cultural and economic issues, in accordance with the regional council’s participatory approach.

In her opening statement, El Hassani stated that July’s session was meant to emphasize the region’s most vital sectors in line with the council’s development vision, in order to achieve spatial justice throughout the region as a whole.

During its meeting, the council agreed to a series of partnership conventions, most importantly those related to the regional program for the promotion of employment, training and professional integration centers (Larache, Ouazzane and Al-Hoceima), Lalla Meryem’s Center for socio-activities (Tetouan), Pasteur Institute (Tangier), addiction centers, Abdellah Guennoun library (Tangier), the court of first instance (the Civil and Family Judiciary Department), and Mohammed VI liberation memorial (Asilah).

Within the same context, the council pleaded for the amendment of the partnership agreement relating to the creation of urban parks (Larache province), the establishment of a waste treatment plant (Ouazzane), and the inauguration of Marshan ecological city (Tangier).

The council also adopted a series of rehabilitation projects in Oued Laou, Gzennaya and Tangier’s old medina. In addition, the council approved the building of several roads and tunnels connecting Tangier to Martil and Asilah, as well as the creation of water supply projects in a number of villages.

It is noteworthy that the council is expected to present its 2015-2021 interim outcome within the next few days, in support of its significant contributions to the developmental dynamics throughout the region.
