Rights – Ouahbi: Citizenship-stripping is ill-advised

PAM Secretary General, Abdellatif Ouahbi, stated that the “stranded Moroccans” case carries several security, economic and educational aspects, and that the exploratory mission in charge of the case is keen on developing a vision aimed at solving this issue.

“Citizenship-stripping is an ill-advised strategy that shall not be adopted under any circumstances, for only children shall suffer the consequences”, Ouahbi said in a press conference held at the House of Representatives headquarters, noting that the exploratory mission was initiated by PAM at first, before more MPs join in support of the party’s initiative.

The role of exploratory missions shall not be limited to holding the government accountable, for they are also required to work closely with the latter in order to find proper solutions to current issues, Ouahbi stressed, claiming that the Mission’s main duty is to ensure cohesion between the government and the rest of Morocco’s competent institutions.

Ouahbi also revealed that the exclusive meetings with the Red Cross representatives were deemed unofficial as has been pointed out by the Minister of Foreign Affairs earlier, recalling that the Minister of Interior has provided data in this regard, with the purpose of finding proper solutions to the issue at hand.

The Moroccan state is deeply engaged and committed to this humanitarian cause, he added.
