PAM Party Profile : Dates & Key Points
The Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM) was created on August 8, 2008 as an extension of the “Movement of All Democrats Movement”. It was a part of the changes that took place in Morocco in the 1st decade of the third millennium, namely the need to launch a political dynamic to support the structural reforms that Morocco is experiencing.
This creation was based on a conviction shared by a set of actors of different sensitivities given that the national political scene suffers from division, lack of coherence and efficiency, as well as disinterest in politics, which all call for ‘a different political propaganda meeting the demands and the challenges of our time.
+ Principles
The ideological frame of reference of the Authenticity and Modernity Party is based on the traditional foundations of the Moroccan State: Muslim religion, constitutional, democratic and social monarchy, territorial integrity, as well as openness to the values of modernity and all universal humanist values guaranteeing freedom and human dignity.
The party’s vision is also imbued with the Centenary report which reviewed public policies for half a century, the report of the Equity and Reconciliation Commission which combed through the past of human rights violations, as well as the ideals of social democracy.
+ COURSE
It is in a context marked by the inability of traditional parties to mobilize Moroccan youth, which results in mistrust of politics ; that the Authenticity and Modernity Party was created to contribute to the efforts aimed at building a state based on political, ideological and linguistic pluralism.
In addition to the members of the “Movement of All Democrats”, it is safe to say that PAM “absorbed” five parties, namely the Al Ahd party, the Environment and Development party, the Alliance of Freedoms party, Citizenship and development Initiative party, and the National Democratic Party.
The party structure is centered around modernist political and economic elites, drawn from liberal and left-wing parties, and a fringe of notables with local influence.
+ Objectives
The Authenticity and Modernity Party aims at contributing, with all political actors as well as the forces of modernization and democracy, to rehabilitating political action in its noble course, to strengthening the policy of proximity, moralizing public life, promoting the participation of elites in political life with a view to strengthening democratic choice, and implementing major projects launched under the new leadership.
+ Summits and general secretaries
Important figures have succeeded each other at the head of the Authenticity and Modernity Party:
– Hassan Benaddi led the party from the announcement of its creation on August 08, 2008 until February 19, 2009.
– The 1st (constitutive) summit elected, on February 22, 2009, Cheikh Mohammed Biadillah as secretary general, to serve until February 16, 2012.
– The 2nd summit elected Mustapha Bakkouri as Secretary General (until January 21, 2016)
– During the 3rd summit, Ilyas Omari became party leader until his resignation in 2018
– The extraordinary session of the National Council, held on May 27, 2018, elected Hakim Benchemach as Secretary General to complete the mandate of Mr. Ilyas Omari.
– The 4th summit, held on February 09, 2020, unanimously elected Abdellatif Ouahbi as secretary general.
+ Representation within the legislative institution
– House of Representatives: The Authenticity and Modernity Party represents the second force with 102 deputies
– House of Councilors: PAM has the largest group with 24 councilors
– Presidency of the Chamber of Councilors: It is represented, for the second consecutive time, by the Authenticity and Modernity Party
– Representation to elected bodies
– Regional Councils: PAM chairs 5 regions: Marrakech-Safi, Casablanca-Settat, Tanger-Tettouan-Al Hoceima, Orient and Beni Mellal-Khenifra
– Councils of prefectures and provinces: PAM heads 24 prefectural and provincial councils
– Professional chambers: The Authenticity and Modernity Party presides over 14 chambers
– Urban and rural municipalities: the Party leads 360 municipalities
PAM also has 6,520 municipal councilors.
