Politburo communiqué: “PAM shall remain committed to modernizing the electoral system and strengthening the presence of women in Parliament”
PAM’s Politburo held a meeting on Saturday, under the chairmanship of the party’s Secretary General, Abdellatif Ouahbi, to discuss the latest development at the national and international political scene, as well as the upcoming elections and the party’s internal affairs.
Following a detailed briefing by PAM’s SG over Morocco’s territorial integrity at the national, regional and international levels, members within the party’s politburo said they were rather astonished by “the incomprehensible manoeuvres led by two African countries against the interests of our territorial integrity”.
“Within the same context, and following the letter (legally and morally unacceptable) that the heads of Algeria’s parliamentary teams addressed to the new US president regarding Morocco’s territorial integrity, the national public opinion was again surprised by the continuous threats made by these two countries to jeopardize the US recognition of the Moroccan Sahara”, the statement added.
“PAM politburo members praised the positions adopted by several heads of state, governments, ministers and ambassadors of different countries, against such hostile actions, expressing their explicit support for Morocco’s full sovereignty over its Saharan regions”, specifies the press release.
As for Covid-19 pandemic and the various challenges it brings upon, PAM’s political bureau shed light on the positive progress achieved by Morocco in terms of its vaccination campaign, thanks to the wise monitoring and supervision of HM, King Mohammed VI, while praising “the enormous efforts made by various public forces, as well as the health sector staff”.
The politburo members have also called on the government to “reflect on the important results obtained so far throughout the vaccination process, to create a strong economic and social dynamic capable of reducing the gravity of the crisis, while focusing on the most affected sectors such as tourism, for it is now on the verge of bankruptcy, which requires urgent government intervention for the latter to be saved”.
Regarding the next elections, PAM’s Politburo emphasized “the constructive dialogue and responsible discussion, shown by various parliamentary teams within the House of Representatives, throughout their debate over electoral laws”.
“In this regard, the Political Bureau submitted all its recommendations and resolutions over the electoral laws to the Secretary General, for the latter to refer them to the party’s deputies”, underlines the press release.
These recommendations and resolutions underline the need for the party to remain committed to the modernization of electoral laws, whether in terms of “strengthening the presence of women and Moroccans from around the world in parliament, supporting the expansion of regionalization, and raising the ceiling for cases of incompatibility, in order to pave the way for new elites to manage public affairs; or in terms of the willingness to give greater credibility to the parliament’s discourse, by serving the great interests of the country”.
With regard to the party’s internal affairs, the political bureau ruled, based on the provisions in force within its statute, on certain issues concerning the organizational situation of several elected officials, and decided to refer their portfolios to the competent bodies, the statement said.
Meanwhile, as the anniversary date for Morocco’s historic royal speech approaches (March 9, 2011), for it has since, represented a democratic symbol that marked the past decade in our country, PAM politburo decided, in partnership with the party’s parliamentary teams, to organize a major national conference on this event, with the participation of senior politicians, academics and intellectuals, in order to shed light on the negative and positive aspects that marked the implementation of the new constitution.
As for the draft law on cannabis legitimization, provided the radical changes it may bring upon to Morocco’s northern regions where cannabis cultivation lacks legal framing, and given the great efforts made by PAM in support of the latter, the party has decided to create a commission within its political bureau to prepare an in-depth report on the said draft law, for the party to adopt “a clear and explicit position” on this bill.
