A French MP : Morocco and France to strengthen their diplomatic ties in prospect of opening a consulate in the Sahara
The Head of PAM’s team within the House of Representatives, Rachid El Abdi, along with the party’s politburo member, Mehdi Bensaid, met, on behalf of PAM’s Secretary General, with French MP, and National Rally member, Majid Ghorab.
The meeting took place on March 25, at the party’s central headquarters.
“This meeting falls within the party’s parallel diplomacy in support of Morocco’s national cause”, Bensaid stated, stressing that France has always been supportive of Morocco in this regard.
“Due to the common interests linking both Morocco and France, it has become necessary for the latter to recognize Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara (in light of the United States’ earlier position in this regard)”, Bensaid added.
He underlined that legislative institutions in France include several politicians and high-profile officials of Moroccan origins, with the power to promote Morocco’s claims accordingly.
Upon their meeting, the French MP and his PAM politburo counterparts emphasized the need to promote France’s investments in Morocco (most importantly in southern provinces), and called on France to open its consulate in one of Morocco’s southern cities, as soon as possible.
