Elections 2021 – Ouahbi: Several Moroccan Ministers provide “electoral services” in a way that undermines fair competition and equality of opportunity

A political debate on the eve of 2021 general elections. “Moroccan parties have been playing important and decisive roles in our modern history, for they have been contributing to our national political scene for over 60 years”, PAM Secretary General, Abdellatif Ouahbi, stated, in light of a debate, held, at Fquih Tétouanais Foundation in Salé, on April 17, under the theme “Political parties’ programs between electoral challenges and society’s expectations”.

“PAM’s current conflict with both RNI and PJD is somehow incommensurate”, Ouahbi revealed, on the side-lines of “Hadith Ramadan” first episode, covered by several media outlets.

“We shall urge the Supreme Council for Accounts to monitor the Ministry of Agriculture’s most recent decisions for the latter tended to launch several projects in the last few months, which raises the question on whether these projects were directed to benefit citizens or to, in fact, serve the elections”, Ouahbi stressed. “Moreover, why would certain regions benefit from millions worth of funds, but not others?”, he added.

It is inconceivable for regional officials within particular ministries to carry out their election campaigns by making an influence on authority figures, Ouahbi noted.

“This might indicate the emergence of a new crisis”, PAM Secretary General revealed, stressing that the government features several Ministers who provide “electoral services” in a way that undermines fair competition and equality of opportunity, which is likely to put us all in the middle of an even greater confrontation.

« We always try to remain calm, for our main objective is to run a successful electoral campaign, but unfortunately, some parties tend to use authoritarian figures and ministerial funds to serve their electoral propaganda », Ouahbi stated, claiming that PAM, along with other opposition parties, are being pressured on by their opponents, which is totally unacceptable.

The PAM leader did disclose the names of these political parties but the message concerns the RNI group in the first place.
