Diplomacy – Bilateral talks bring together PAM’s chief and the governor of Mombasa (Kenya)

PAM Secretary General, Abdellatif Ouahbi, held bilateral talks on Thursday, at the party’s headquarters in Rabat, with Mr. Hassan Ali Joho, the governor of the Kenyan province of Mombasa, who is on a working visit to Morocco, at the head of an important delegation representing Kenya.

The bilateral discussions between both parties were mainly focused on strengthening means of cooperation between Morocco and Kenya, for the two countries constitute a shield for Africa in confronting extremism and terrorism, as well as supporting political and democratic stability in the continent, PAM Secretary General indicated.

Most Sahel countries suffer from security-related issues, however, the Moroccan-Kenyan cooperation will – with no doubt – contribute to the region’s stability as a whole, Ouahbi revealed, noting that Kenya is the embodiment of Africa; a country that has shown a desire to develop towards a state of institutions.

Ouahbi also stressed that terrorism and instability in Africa can only be confronted with economic cooperation and democracy, and that the security cooperation between Morocco and Kenya vis-à-vis their exchange of expertise shall strengthen their bilateral relations, noting that a strong state is one that enjoys national unity, for small and fragmented states remain unable to defend their territories, thus providing the perfect environment for terrorism to rise.

Defending Morocco’s territorial integrity shall ensure peace and security in the entire region, Ouahbi stated, stressing that Morocco refuses to deal with separatist organizations or tendencies within the African continent, for he believes Morocco is a sovereign state, which (along with Kenya), shall contribute to the economic and political development of Africa, by adopting a cooperative approach with its continental allies.

For his part, Hassan Ali Joho expressed his gratitude to Morocco for the warm welcome he received upon his visit, indicating that Kenya seeks continuous bilateral cooperation with Morocco in light of the ongoing challenges.

Kenya in particular, and Africa in general, have suffered from extremism for years, Joho noted, stressing that politicians play a major role in confronting all kinds and forms of extremism.

Democracy is an essential component of our daily life that shall be developed accordingly to consolidate the principles of cooperation among African nations, the Governor of Mombasa province declared.

It is noteworthy that this meeting was attended by PAM Politburo member, Mehdi Bensaid, and Marrakesh-Safi MP, Ahmed Touizi.
