PAM Politburo held (on Friday) a meeting chaired by the party’s Secretary General, Abdellatif Ouahbi, to discuss the latest developments on the national and international levels, as well as the preparations for the upcoming elections and the party’s internal affairs.
Interacting with the political report presented by the party’s Secretary General with regard to the current national and international political developments, PAM Politburo members discussed the ongoing diplomatic crisis between Morocco and Spain, a Politburo communiqué revealed.
PAM Politburo members once again expressed their “indignation” with regard to the Moroccan-Spanish diplomatic-crisis-escalation in light of the latter’s controversial declarations and positions, recalling at the same time the need to respect the good neighbourly relations both countries share, and the importance of restoring confidence vis-à-vis their long constructive cooperation, to which the kingdom of Morocco has always shown a high sense of moral commitment”, underlined the same source.
With regard to the latest developments in Palestine, PAM Politburo members welcomed the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip, while reiterating their absolute support for the Palestinian people under the leadership of their legal authority.
PAM Politburo members also called on the international community to make a strong contribution to the reconstruction of Gaza, and to give its full support to the Palestinian people in order to mitigate the effects resulting in the heinous crimes committed by the state of Israel against Palestinian civilians.
On this occasion, PAM Politburo members warmly welcomed the proactive initiative by HM King Mohammed VI upon sending aid to the Palestinian people, as well as the role played by the Moroccan sovereign in support of the Palestinian cause and the Palestinian people, “thus leaving no room to doubt with regard to Morocco’s unconditioned commitment and support to the Palestinian cause”.
As for the Covid-19 pandemic and the various challenges it continues to bring upon, PAM Politburo members once again praised the efforts made by HM King Mohammed VI, mainly in terms of obtaining large quantities of vaccine doses as well as reducing night curfew measures, which shall contribute to an economic improvement among various social segments including shopkeepers, coffee-shop workers and restaurant owners.
The Politburo members also urged the government to develop a plan aimed at overcoming the ongoing crisis – urgently, yet gradually – as to save certain sectors from “falling short”, such as catering businesses, cultural-event planners, and other professions related to music, theater and cinema, as well as tourism and its associated sectors, including crafts, transportation, and entertainment venues.
Regarding the report submitted by the new development model commission to HM King Mohammed VI, PAM Politburo members praised the important inclusive work and the efforts made by the members of this commission and all those who contributed to such a “national strategic achievement”, stressing that the content of this report will be subject of an in-depth study by the party’s structures, including a committee of experts appointed by PAM Secretary General for this matter.
And in response to the rising political and parliamentary questions, PAM Politburo members shed light on “the constitutional absurdity” demonstrated by the government majority within the House of Representatives, on Wednesday (May 26, 2021), upon voting on Bill 13.21 relating to the legal use of cannabis, provided the clear dispersion and inconsistency among its components in this regard”, calling on the parliamentary opposition groups to “abide by the constitutional provisions in dealing with such constitutional failures and slippages”, as well as to assess the government’s social, economic and human rights record.
With regard to the party’s internal affairs, as well as the preparations for the upcoming elections in light of the reports presented by the National Election Commission, and by virtue of the committee’s approved proposals in this regard, PAM Politburo members finally approved most of its candidacy lists for the House of Representatives, and decided to publish the party’s final candidacy list in all local constituencies by June 15.
Meanwhile, PAM Politburo members examined a number of their elected-officials’ portfolios, mainly those related to breaking the partisan code by coordinating with other parties ahead of the upcoming elections, and those who joined other political structures (thus deemed excluded from the party), the communiqué underlines, indicating that the Politburo’s decision in this regard will soon be published on PAM’s official website.
In conclusion, PAM Politburo members expressed their rejoice over the unscathed emergence of their Secretary General upon his recent car accident in Rabat, while condemning the exploitation of this incident in a heinous manner by certain parties, for they tended to post fabricated photos on social media in an attempt to damage the reputation of PAM’s Secretary General as well as the political formation he heads.
“Such an act represents a blatant electoral maneuver that reflects an unprecedented moral baseness, for the latter is unlikely to affect the party’s commitment to carry out its mission with the same determination, until reaching the political position PAM deserves”, the communiqué noted.
