Al Abdi: Water rationalization in the agricultural sector should be respected to face water shortage

President of the Rabat-Salé-Kenitra area council, Mr. Rachid Al Abdi has called for the necessity to rationalize water use in the agricultural sector which consumes more than 80% of water and also to diverse waters which are lost into the sea and which are estimated during some rainy seasons at about 1 billion cubic meters.

This statement has come during the meeting held by President Al Abdi and the elected body of the area, with Minister of Equipment and Water, Mr. Nizar Baraka at the Ministry office in Rabat, and which was devoted to debate about sectorial problems related to the use of water and infrastructures in different provinces of the area. The meeting was also an occasion to talk about achievements made by the Ministry over the current year.

In a presentation made by the area’s council President, he has stressed the issue of water shortage in some territorial communes, especially in rural area, where the council has allocated several subventions to the provinces of Khemisset, Sidi Kacem and Sidi Sliman, where parts of those subventions have been used to solve the problems of sanitation, waste water treatment and protection of water resources and reinforcement of distribution network of potable water.

President Al Abdi has also called, during that meeting, on Minister of Equipment and Water to support the creation of Kenitra port and double the road linking Kenitra to Sidi Allal Bahraoui and the road between Sidi Allal Bahraoui and Ain Jouhara.
