Minister of Justice: National action plan in the field of democracy and human rights is the fruit of collective and participative Action amid various players

Minister of Justice, Mr. Abdellatif Ouahbi has stated that national action plan in the field of democracy and human rights is one of the results of collective and participative action amid various players and constitutes a national framework for legal policy.

Minister Ouahbi made clear in his response to MPs questions last Monday, January 16, 2023, that just after its endorsement by Morocco, Ministerial commissioner in charge of human rights has started coordinating this national plan, by preparing its executive planning according to a methodic and participative approach that allows concerned protagonists to implement it.

According to Minister Ouahbi, the national action plan was also based on the launching of a social dialogue about some conflicting issues as defined by the committee in charge of its preparation and which has comes out with several recommendations that have made the ministerial commissioner in charge of human rights to supervise the preparation of a periodic report about any progress being made in the implementation of this national plan and thus explores its results and scopes past 2021.

Minister Ouahbi has reminded that in implementation the recommendations and action program of the world conference for human rights in Vienna inn 1993, our country has endorsed a national action plan in the field of democracy and human rights by end of 2017, which is an initiative that reflects the Kingdom’s determination to establish a democratic society governed by rule of the law state and institutions, and its commitments to human rights standards as internationally recognized.

The Minister added that in conformity with the government program commitments 2021-2026, which has asserted that democracy and rule the law state, human rights and freedoms are fundamental and collective issues among many sectors and touches on the philosophy and orientation of the new development model, which has stipulated the updating of national action plan in the field of democracy and human rights.

The Minister has informed that the commissioner has supervised updating process and has prepared a project for that plan according to specific and basic references on their top, the royal speech and royal messages, the orientation of the new development model and the government program commitments 2021-2026 plus UN human rights mechanisms recommendations and goals of sustainable development for 2030.

The Minister has concluded that the plan project was submitted to different government sectors, to national and constitutional institutions to express their opinion, pointing out that the Justice Ministry has taken several measures about endorsing that project in the context of our country pursuing its integration into the major project of strategic plan for human rights.
