Minister of Justice presents to both international and national experts and specialists the Moroccan Kingdom’s efforts to fight money laundering crime
Minister of Justice Mr. Abdellatif Ouahbi has presented the Moroccan Kingdom’s efforts to fight money laundering crime, praising our country’s choice to host a regional conference on the topic “Strengthening judiciary cooperation in MENA area: For the sake of a comprehensive and integrated approach of investigation and follow up to fight money laundering”; especially after the Kingdom’s crowned efforts in the fight against money laundering thanks to efforts by various national interveners.
Minister Ouahbi asserted in his statement made at the opening session of regional conference held Monday morning, June 5, 2023 at the conferences palace in Oulja, Salé, that the Moroccan Kingdom has managed, thanks to efforts by a number of institutions and national active players and thanks to its contacts with foreign experiences, to establish an outstanding model for an international legal and judiciary cooperation either at the Arab or African levels or with EU countries and the rest of the world. The Moroccan Kingdom has succeeded in integrating international agreements practices in relation with the fight against crime and has signed more than 80 bilateral agreements in the field of international judiciary and penal cooperation, appointing a number of judges in many EU countries and create bilateral and multilateral common committees to strengthen cooperation and rehabilitate its national legal system with new modern mechanisms.
Minister Ouahbi has highlighted that the Ministry of Justice is paying a greater attention to the fight against money laundering crime amid its strategies and orientations endorsed by the state’s penal policy.
Minister Ouahbi sees that confronting money laundering crime requires effective and powerful institutions and rules and bolder reforms according to a participative process among all active players; stressing that Morocco has acquired many gains and large experience over the last few years in the fight against money laundering crime.
Minister Ouahbi has finally called on both international and national experts and specialists to come up with recommendations and proposals to help orient decision-makers to embrace effective approaches.
