By unanimous vote, Mr. Ahmed Bakour, the candidate of the Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM), was elected today, Friday, October 22, as the new president of the Chamber of Traditional Industry for the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region, succeeding his party colleague and the chamber’s former president, Mr. Mounir Limouri.
Bekour’s election came in light of a conflict of interest that prevented Limouri (the latter had been elected president of the Chamber in mid-August and was elected president of the Tangier Municipal Council on September 22, 2021), as it is not possible to hold the presidency of a professional chamber and the presidency of a municipal council simultaneously.
The composition of the Chamber Council’s Executive Committee included the following names: Ahmed Douibi was elected First Vice President, while Mohammed Al-Shuwaikh was elected Second Vice President. Nour al-Din Amali was elected Third Vice President, and Mohammed Al-Rabie was elected Fourth Vice President, while voters selected Ahmed Al-Attari to serve as Fifth Vice President.
Mohamed Nashat was elected as the sixth deputy, while Mostafa Qashaf was elected as the seventh deputy, and the role of eighth deputy was assigned to Mokhtar Ayad. In a related development, Abdelaziz Al-Buhali was elected as secretary of the council, with Mostafa Agmir serving as his deputy.
In a speech delivered on the occasion, Bakour emphasized that his work, alongside the other members, will focus primarily on implementing the provisions of the new development model as they relate to the traditional industry sector—an effort that will only bear fruit with the contribution of all stakeholders in this sector, which is currently grappling with the consequences of numerous challenges, including the economic crisis resulting from the spread of the coronavirus.
The president of the Chamber of Traditional Industry in the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region stated that this sector needs to be revitalized given its role within the economic— both nationally and regionally—with an emphasis on developing financing and marketing to improve the quality of traditional industry products and make them competitive in all markets, as well as to help strengthen the foundations and working conditions of traditional artisans.
Bakour praised the efforts of the Chamber’s former presidents, who have made a positive contribution to the development of this vital sector and possess a thorough understanding of all its details and the challenges it faces.
It is worth noting that the election of Ahmed Bekour as head of the Chamber once again underscores the strength of the Authenticity and Modernity Party in this context and its significant appeal, particularly among artisans, given that Mounir Limouri of the Authenticity and Modernity Party had succeeded El Bami Mohamed Ahmedi, who had headed the Chamber for the previous two terms.
