The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Abroad announced today, Friday, July 21, that the launch of the Kingdom of Morocco’s electronic visa (“eVisa”) on July 10, 2022, has yielded positive results, providing greater flexibility and streamlining the visa issuance process for certain foreign nationals subject to this procedure.
A statement from the ministry noted that, one year after its launch, the e-visa system had processed more than 160,000 applications, including the issuance of approximately 150,000 e-visas.
He added that the number of applications processed rose sharply between July 2022 (approximately 6,000 applications) and November 2022 (more than 15,000 applications).
The number of applications processed by the “e-Visa” unit peaked in May 2023, reaching approximately 18,000.
The ministry noted that this measure, in accordance with the royal directives of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist him, has enabled the tourism sector to cope with the negative repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic and to promote Morocco as a destination for tourism and business.
In this context, 96.6 percent of the 150,000 e-visas issued were for “tourism,” compared with 3.4 percent for “business.”
In the “Business” category, a significant proportion of visa applicants are individuals in leadership and management positions at major companies operating in various fields (engineers, high-level technicians, decision-makers at multinational companies, and others…).
Since the launch of the e-visa, citizens of 110 countries across all continents have benefited from this program, thanks to the simplified application process.
The distribution of “e-visas” issued by nationality is as follows: Israel (55 percent), India (10 percent), Nigeria (4.44 percent), Egypt (4.41 percent), Pakistan (3.5 percent), and Jordan (2.7 percent).
Many foreign nationals subject to this procedure benefit from the e-visa based on their nationality, particularly nationals of Thailand, Jordan, Israel, India, Azerbaijan, and Guatemala.
It should be noted that the current e-visa is a single-entry permit allowing entry into Morocco for a short stay (up to 30 days). It is valid for up to 180 days from the date of issuance.
