The government confirmed yesterday, Thursday, April 18, that it is working to double the import of sheep intended for slaughter during the upcoming Eid al-Adha, compared to last year.
The government said there is a desire to double the number of sacrificial animals imported for Eid this year, with current plans calling for the import of 600,000 head of sheep, though the actual number may exceed that figure.
The government emphasized that establishing an import mechanism is not enough to achieve the desired response, noting that it is working to “streamline and formalize the process followed last year in order to facilitate imports and ensure that the holiday season proceeds smoothly.”
