Mohamed El Mehdi Bensaid, Minister of Youth, Culture, and Communication, emphasized that the ministry attaches great importance to the state of the film industry and to finding ways to reform and develop it.
During a working meeting at the Ministry of Culture’s headquarters with a delegation from the National Chamber of Film Producers, Bensaid explained that the ministry intends to support the creation of 150 multipurpose halls across the country, as well as renovating theaters and youth centers to enable them to screen Moroccan films and to re-establish film culture as a fundamental component of national cultural diversity.
During the same meeting, the Minister of Youth, Culture, and Communication also addressed the need to revise the laws governing the Moroccan Cinema Center, with the aim of making it a tool to support Moroccan and foreign filmmakers who shoot their works in Morocco, and to place special emphasis on screenwriting as the primary and fundamental pillar of filmmaking, This would be achieved by establishing writing residencies and workshops, as well as promoting thematic screenplays.
