Abdelrahim Bouazza, Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research, and Innovation, called for the implementation of the principle long advocated by the student movement, namely the opening of Moroccan universities to their surrounding communities.
In a comment addressed to the minister during the oral question period held on Monday, January 16, 2023, the member of parliament called for the university to open up to the private sector, state institutions, and community leaders, and for all stakeholders to join forces, which would greatly benefit the country.
The member of parliament drew the minister’s attention to the disconnect between the job market and its requirements, as well as the training received by graduates of Moroccan universities, which is considered inadequate, noting that this raises serious questions about university boards’ tracking of graduates and the quality of their training programs.
The member of parliament stressed the need to give young people—the hope of Morocco—the opportunity to be creative and realize their potential through guidance from university councils, noting that the evidence is clear in the large number of Moroccans who have succeeded in various fields in other countries.
