On Wednesday, April 15, 2020, the news website “Kod.ma” published an article titled “Fraso Caught Him. “The Clinic Scandal: Exploiting Coronavirus Patients, Fakaza, and Ties to Parliament,” which was shared across social media platforms. The article contained false allegations, inaccurate information, and malicious insinuations regarding the written question submitted by Representative Mariam Wahsata, of the Authenticity and Modernity Party in the House of Representatives, to the Minister of Health.
The author of the article claimed that Representative Mariam Wahsata “raised the issue of the cosmetic surgeon Tazi Moulay’s beauty clinic, without naming him. She described the clinic as engaging in practices that violate the health precautions recommended under the public health emergency during some of those celebrations.”
In order to set the record straight, and contrary to the false claims made in the article, and to ensure that the name of the Honorable Member of Parliament is not dragged into any matter intended to harm or disparage anyone, Ms. Mariam Wahsata affirms that the written question addressed to the Minister of Health on April 15, 2020, regarding “celebrations of recoveries from the coronavirus,” was intended to draw the attention of the ministry responsible for the health sector to the risks of such celebrations after a number of observers noted certain practices contrary to the health precautions recommended under the state of health emergency, at certain celebrations; such as the gathering of large numbers of journalists and some health institution staff, without sufficient adherence to safety measures and without maintaining a safe distance.
Given the actions taken by the female representative of the Authenticity and Modernity Party, and in light of the potential danger posed by the aforementioned celebrations—which could, God forbid, lead to the spread of infection in the coming days—not to mention the negative message this sends to the public regarding the need to adhere to all preventive and precautionary measures, was to question the Minister of Health regarding the measures the Ministry is taking to monitor and address any breaches of infection prevention protocols during celebrations of similar recovery cases in various hospitals across our country. Contrary to the author’s claim, the representative did not refer to any cosmetic surgeon, and a review of the text of the question reveals that its subject matter is clear and explicit and leaves no room for interpretation.
