The Ministry of Health announced today, Monday, October 12, 2020, that 1,357 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 had been recorded over the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases in Morocco to 153,761.
According to the ministry’s daily bulletin on the results of COVID-19 epidemiological monitoring, 31 new deaths from the virus were recorded during the same period, bringing the death toll to 2,636, while 2,091 people recovered, raising the total number of recoveries to 129,498.
The geographical distribution of the 31 deaths shows 5 cases in Casablanca, 4 in Marrakesh, and 2 deaths each in Oujda-Angad, Tetouan, Midelt, and Inzgane Ait Melloul, followed by one death each in Salé, Kenitra, Rabat, Youssoufia, Fquik, Beni Mellal, Al-Faqih Ben Salah, Larache, M'diq-Fnideq, Fez, Taza, Meknes, Sefrou, and Boulemane.
As for the geographical distribution of the 1,357 new cases recorded over the past 24 hours, the Casablanca region reported 529 cases, followed by the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region with 205 cases, and then the Marrakech-Safi region with 171 cases.
The Beni Mellal-Khenifra region reported 107 cases, while the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region reported 95 cases, the Fez-Meknes region reported 57 cases, the Souss-Massa region reported 37 new cases, the Draa-Tafilalet region reported 19 cases, and the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region reported 16 cases.
In addition, the number of serious or critical cases stands at 464, of which 48 are on invasive mechanical ventilation; meanwhile, the occupancy rate of COVID-19 intensive care beds is 23 percent.
The Ministry of Health urges citizens to adhere to hygiene and health safety rules and to comply with the precautionary measures adopted by the Moroccan authorities with a sense of national responsibility.
