To mark National Merchants’ Day, the Casablanca-Settat Chamber of Commerce, Industry, and Services, in partnership with the National Association of Merchants and Professionals of Morocco, organized a networking event on the theme “Domestic Trade: A Key Driver of Economic Development,” with the participation of Chamber members representing the trade sector, as well as presidents and representatives of active professional associations in the region.
This event is part of the Chamber’s celebration of National Merchant Day, which falls on June 21; and serves as a reaffirmation of the Chamber’s commitment to this professional group, recognizing the vital socio-economic role that merchants play in strengthening the national economy and achieving economic development, as well as expressing appreciation for their efforts and dedication to promoting economic growth and creating job opportunities.
National Merchants Day is also an opportunity to assess the aspirations and expectations of merchants that are essential for achieving balanced development and fostering a conducive economic and social environment.
On the sidelines of this meeting, a number of members, merchants, and association leaders were honored for their dedication to defending the interests of merchants and for their efforts to serve the trade sector and achieve the desired commercial prosperity and economic development.
It should be noted that the trade sector is one of the pillars of the national economy; it employs more than 1.6 million people, or about 15.2 percent of the Kingdom’s working-age population, and accounts for 9 percent of the national gross domestic product.
