The Eastern Region Council Examines the Economic and Social Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on the Region

The Eastern Region Council held its regular session today, Monday, July 6, chaired by Mr. Abdel Nabi Baoui, President of the Region, in the presence of Mr. Moaz Al-Jamaei, Governor of the Eastern Region and Prefect of Oujda-Angad, the members of the Eastern Region Council, the heads of decentralized agencies, representatives of civil society organizations, and representatives of the media.

On this occasion, Mr. Abdel Nabi Baoui, President of the Oriental Region Council, said that “This session is taking place in a general context that motivates us all to strengthen our resolve to overcome constraints and surmount the difficulties at hand, especially since our country, like the rest of the world, is experiencing exceptional circumstances due to the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic and is going through a phase fraught with challenges at all levels and in all areas. and it is clear that this pandemic has cast a shadow over all sectors and affected most of the approved development plans.”

The President of the Region took the opportunity presented by this regular session to pray to Almighty God to grant His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist him and grant him victory, good health, well-being, and a long life. He also highly commended the royal directives, which were characterized by their proactive and forward-looking nature, reflecting the Royal concern through the issuance of royal orders to take the necessary measures to protect our beloved country from the coronavirus pandemic and its effects and repercussions, and to prioritize the safety of our citizens above all else.

Mr. Abdel Nabi Baoui also proudly recalled the royal initiative to establish a special fund to combat the coronavirus pandemic, which served to highlight the spirit of unity and solidarity among different segments of society.

The President of the Region did not miss the opportunity to commend the efforts of the provincial authorities, represented by the Wali of the Eastern Region and Governor of the Oujda-Angad Prefecture, and through him, all regional and local authorities and security services, as well as elected officials, heads of decentralized agencies, and civil society leaders. In addition, he also expressed his thanks and appreciation to all healthcare professionals in the public, military, and private sectors.

The President of the Regional Council also expressed his gratitude to the region’s residents for their commitment to and compliance with the conditions and guidelines imposed by the quarantine measures. He commended the establishment of the Regional Economic Monitoring Committee and highlighted the efforts of the members of the Regional Council’s Bureau, the heads of the various teams and committees, and all members of the Council.

Mr. Abdel Nabi Baoui emphasized the Eastern Region Council’s commitment to actively engaging in various innovative initiatives aimed at overcoming the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, and to embark on a new phase that requires intensified efforts from all partners in regional development, as well as serious work to build a new social and economic contract under the wise leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist him, in order to create a renewed dynamic for development that contributes to the recovery of the national and regional economy.

For the record, all items on the agenda of the July regular session—which pertain to the economic and social repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic—were unanimously approved- Regarding the Eastern Region, a presentation on the progress of the draft program agreement between the Eastern Region and the State, financial transfers, as well as the review and approval of the amendment to Eastern Region Council Decision No. 42 dated July 4, 2016, concerning the acquisition of land for the construction of a regional disaster relief center, in addition to the review and approval of the framework partnership agreement regarding the terms and conditions for supporting the renewal of the fleet of first- and second-class taxis in the Oujda-Angad province.
