Tedros Adhanom, Director-General of the World Health Organization, expressed grave concern over the rising number of COVID-19 cases in some countries, particularly in Europe and the United States.
During a press conference held on Monday, November 16, 2020, in Geneva, Adhanom stated that the news regarding the results of potential vaccines for the novel coronavirus is encouraging, but this does not alleviate the deep concern over the rising number of cases, particularly in Europe and the United States.
He added, “This dangerous virus can attack every system in the human body… Countries that are lax in their response are playing with fire… There is no excuse for inaction,” he said, stressing the need for countries around the world to take swift and decisive action, especially since the organization has 150 medical teams providing support to countries worldwide in their emergency response to this virus.
